The movie The Golden Compass was supposed to be a BLOCKBUSTER movie. It had all of the ingredients we learned about:

a) it was HOT because

it is a hot topic (similar to both Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter),

it has hot actors (Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig [the new James Bond])

and it is using cutting-edge CGI animation.

b) The movie was RELEASED in time for Christmas 2007.

c) It was HEAVILY PROMOTED all over the media.

According to www.boxofficemojo.com:

The Golden Compass cost $180 million to make.

It has earned about $65 million back in the United States.

Experts say, however, that even though the movie made back its money after showing around the world, the movie is considered a “flop” in the United States, which is the biggest movie market in the world.

QUESTION:
Even though The Golden Compass had all the right ingredients to be a blockbuster, why do you think that it wasn’t very successful in the United States? Was it the choice of movie stars? The genre? Poor promoting?

QUESTION:
Are lyrics from the 1950′s, 60′s, 70′s & 80′s still relevant to today’s music listeners?

In other words, are the messages from these older songs still important today? Can these lyrics connect with young listeners today? Or are they completely outdated, out of fashion, useless, and not important?

Examples of older artists:

Feel free to think of other older artists. Keep the artists BEFORE the 90′s and 2000′s, please.
